Position: Private Chef
Location: Greenwich, Connecticut
Schedule:
- Dinner Monday – Thursday & Saturday (daily start and end time TBD)
- Lunch on Saturdays, during spring and summer
- Two dinner shifts on weekdays, 6:30 PM for two younger children and 7 PM for principals, live-in housekeeper, and older child
- Saturday dinner 6:30 PM & 8 PM
- Saturday lunch 12:30 PM
- Days Off: Friday and Sunday
Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Benefits: Two weeks PTO, five sick days, paid major holidays, potential for a health insurance stipend
Other Staff: Live-In Housekeeper, House Manager
Position Overview
A warm and active Greenwich family of five, two parents and three children (ages 8, 11, and 15), is seeking a Private Chef to become a trusted and integral part of their household. This is a more informal, welcoming household, and the family is looking for someone who integrates seamlessly into that rhythm, bringing a calm, organized presence into their home. The Chef will be responsible for menu planning, food shopping, and preparing nightly dinners Monday through Thursday and Saturdays, with lunch on Saturday as well, during the spring and summer. It is an open-concept kitchen, so maintaining a calm, organized, and pleasant environment while cooking is especially important to the family. This is a high-impact role for someone who goes beyond execution. The right person will arrive each week with fresh ideas and bring initiative and genuine enthusiasm to their work. They will be someone who communicates proactively, handles logistics independently, and has a calm, confident presence in the kitchen.
Responsibilities
- Develop rotating menus with variety across Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, and clean, seasonal cuisine
- Prepare nightly dinners with the ability to execute parallel meals:
- Elevated meals for adults
- Kid-friendly versions that help expand children’s palates over time
- Handle all food shopping and manage the kitchen pantry
- Prepare and execute all meals, serving family style
- Accommodate two dinner times each evening with grace and flexibility
- Prepare and package a dinner for Fridays on Thursdays
- Scale meals for extended family/ guests on Saturdays – 5+ additional guests
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen throughout cooking (clean as you go), including all post-meal cleanup
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a private household chef
- Broad culinary range with strength in Asian, Italian, American, Mediterranean cooking; healthy and clean cuisine
- Ability to prepare simple, appealing dishes for young children alongside more elevated fare for adults
- Strong organizational skills: menu planning, shopping, prep, and scheduling all handled independently
- A calm, grounded demeanor, especially important given the open kitchen setting
- Takes pride in going above and beyond, not just completing tasks
- Warm, outgoing personality and the ability to integrate naturally into the family’s home
- Culinary degree a plus
